Darwesh is a term used for a religious mendicant. All the way through, from very bigginig till the ninteenth century we witness the term Darwesh frequently being used by almost all the prominent poets. Urdu poets like Zahoorud din Hatim, Shakir Naji Qaim Chandpuri, Meer taqi Meer, Khawaja Haider Ali Atish and Allama Muhammad Iqbal has shown great fondness for this specific sufistic term. Most prominently, Meer Taqi Meer has used this term, thus the paper focuses at discovering multiple meaningful ways and possibilities explored by Meer Taqi Meer, while using this term that holds a particular significance in Islamic Sufiism. A comparative study of thoughts and styles of different poets is also a point of consideration for the researcher.
